wonderful shapes and lines with the mountain in the distance to give it a sense of scale. Might be just me but it seems to be rather contrasty?

Contrasty?

It was a somewhat hazy day and the mountain didn't show up as well in the original image as it does here. I bumped up the black levels a bit and gave it a strong contrast curve in Lightroom so that the mountain would be more visible.

Fantastic place, great reflection. I would choose a different angle and capture the mountain in fully.

Composition

I've been taking a photography class at the local community college and our "assignment" for the week was to make compositions using lines and shapes, so my composition was intended to emphasize the lines of the pilings and then hopefully draw the viewer farther back into the image and to the mountain.

I like that you didn't center the mountain, the photo would have looked cluttered otherwise.
