This is Shannon. She is a 15 year old aspiring model and she volunteered to help me with an assignment I had for a photo workshop. The assignment was to try to mimic the style of a famous photographer. This was my attempt to mimic Dave LaChapelle. Together we came up with this idea. She is teetering on the brink of adolesence and her new found womanhood and she wants to shake her child like image. This is actually 2 photos of Shannon on top of one another. I used the trusty erasure tool..and voila!!

Thanks Marco! We had a ball collaborating on this shot. I'm glad to see someone likes it. I posted it on another site and got nothing but negatve reviews ...go figure...some people have no imagination.

Thanks again!!

You bet Lorri. I know how painstaking it is to stage shots like these and people with very bland imagination just couldnt care.

Hi Lorri,

One thing i noticed about SOME users of this site is that they SEEM to like only nice pictures of everything like sunrise/sunset, flowers, views, nice wildlife. They dont SEEM to appreciate "reality" pictures or journalism pics or creative-but-not-so-pleasing-to-their-eyes pictures.
I can only count a few pictures here that really convey the harsh realities of life.

WOW.......!

What can I say, this is a fine piece of work you created here.
I still have a suggestion.
This scene is setup very good although IMO to clean/neat .
After a fight like this I would think the table and bits and pieces like the little toy's would be all spread out on the floor.
This is no critic just a remark.
The work you did in post processing is excellent, I can not see it's a layered picture.
Compliments and nice to have you here on this site.
( don?t have to switch to MFT anymore to see your work?.;-)

Good work Lorri, I like Dave La Chapelle for " humor dramatic scenes" and you have well interpreted his style. Regards sergio

I have to come back one more time.
I didn't know Dave La Chappelle , I have looked up his name and found some pictures from him.
Now I understand much more this set-up you made.
I stay with my last comment , saying that I like this shot very much...;-)

So shall we have an April contest category about the harsh realities of life ? By the way, in the (still open) March photo contest we have a category titled "Stress!!!".

Thanks to all

I'm new on this site (I left MFT). I wasn't sure how this photo would be taken because it is gruesome in a way...but there is enough humor in it to know that it is fabricated.

Fons: I agree that if this really took place, it would have probably been one wild cat fight and there would have been toys and things everywhere and not to mention, a lot more blood....but because my model is under age, I wanted to keep it somewhat civil. In fac,t it was Shannon who wanted the blood and knife...I was leaning more towards strangulation, but she thought the knife and blood would add "punch factor" and she was right.

Marco: I like your attitude...so many photographers frown upon this type of work...but photography is an art form unlike any other and why not use it to convey a message...good or bad or indifferent. While still lifes, portraits and landscapes all have there place in this wonderful medium...so does surrealism and photo art.

Alfred: I like that idea...the realities of life....Might not be the most pleasant contest, but I bet it would be very interesting!!

Tom: As always, you really give me something to think about...you always do!! It keeps me on my toes!!

Sergio: A David LaChappelle fan !!! Me to...I'm glad I did him justice....it's not any easy thing to mimic him. I love his style and his work with birght vivid colors and conflicting drama in his work.

Thanks y'all so much. Your input is much appreciated!!

I love the creativity here. The only thing I might have done differently is to use a longer focal length so the foot in the forground isn't so large.

Altogether, very well done!
