I like this eyecatching shot, but how did you make the background black if you did not use flash?

Thanks Mike for the comment and question.....
It was shot on a sunny day no flash used, I made the BG black because I found it quite disturbing...

I used CS 3
1-make a new layer.....
2-selected the bird ....
3-reverse the selection ....
4-Image-Adjustment-Levels slider as far to the right as necessary to create an of darkness ...
If there are still some light spots you can clone them out with the Dark you just created .
