Crikey what detail! Lovely pic with subtle colouring very well displayed. Think the bird is saying "who, me?"

Almost perfect....

Fantastic deep, rich beautiful rainy day colours and very good sharpness (which no wonder considering the amazing lens you are using).

Just a question: you really took this shot at F13? I would have guessed a larger aperture, to get a nicely blurred background. Or do you need F13 otherwise the bird will not be in focus?

Hello ALfred,

I took a few shots ....
Starting with F22 and came down to F13....
At F22 the BG didn't had a nice BOKEH it was much more detailed and I didn't want that...
At F13 I liked the BG and the focus on the bird was perfect.....
See the different in the BOKEH at the shot from the Great Tit.....( a little more light available at that moment )
Wide open aperture gives a uniform BG and beautiful BOKEH...
Thanks for your interest.....
Best regards,
F....

One more question - 1/50s and 300mm. Did you use a tripod or was the in-camera IS strong enough to stabilise the shot?

IS was on , and of course used a tripod ......
The ED 300mm 2.8 is to heavy for me to use handhold......;-))
I was surprised also that the shot didn't show any movement at all with this low shutter speed....
The pigeon sat very still at the moment the shutter was released....
She/He noticed the shutter clicks before I guess and was looking where it came from...

Congrats Fonzy!.....I am just wondering how you would use this amazing lens to click birds that do not stay still even for a short moment and flit around from one place to another!!

Cheers,

Arun

Thanks for comment Arun.....
Have a look at this :

These birds are very nervous and never sit still for a moment......;-))
It's not a lens to sway around ( way to heavy ) but from hiding places or tripod it's fantastic ...
