Prepared for Dinner
This is an interesting kingfisher picture.
The bird has spotted a fish in the water and is prepared to dive within a split second. You can see how it has lowered its head-profile by streamlining its feathers. This allows it to easier penetrate the water due to less resistance and less boyancy. Cheers, Jens

NO SUBJECT
Great shot Jens of this Kingfisher.
Can you send the bird south....;-)
Few questions:
Would it be possible to shoot with a aperture (8) and 400 ISO to get more detail in the orange and green feathers?
The noise from the ISO you could remove with neat-image (a great tool to have)..
Would it also be better to have noise reduction on in the camera, shooting with 400ISO, do you have experience with this.

No, the lens has alredy the required sharpenss and DOF at this diatance at f/4.

Yes, I do have a lot of experience with NeatImage as I very often have to go to ISO 400 in the winter in order to keep fast enough exposure times. My conclusion is that it is impossible to remove any noise without also reducing fine detail of feathers. Small feathers are particularly tricky. Larger birds are easier because they also have larger structures that are visible even when the detail in small feathers is gone. They say it is better in 16 bit mode but my Neat Image version only supports 8 bits. I will update it soon and I will report back about the difference.
Cheers, Jens.
